London Greenground map – 3rd edition

The third London Greenground Map is the largest greenground map to date – connecting 1,200 green spaces with 20 inspirational lines for exploring the London-wide network of parks, rivers, nature reserves, woods and wetlands. Covering all London boroughs every neighborhood will find nature on their doorstep.

When the first and second maps were all about outdoor activities and covering long distances, the third map encourages you to slow down instead, be mindful of your surrounding environment and truly connect with nature. We all need fresh air, quiet spaces and greenery to be healthy and happy. This map shows, where you can find places inside Greater London to pause and observe nature in a quieter environment. It doesn’t come as a surprise the best air quality and widest green coverage is in the outskirts of the city, but you’ll find hidden gems, wherever you are.

While celebrating London’s greenery we also need to be mindful of the threats green spaces are facing – urban expansion and over-development. The third map highlights some of the ongoing projects you can support to not lose the green in London.

NEW! Now includes a special edition map with community gardens and growing spaces to inspire everyone to grow their own food.

What reviewers are saying about the map

“I’ve seen parts of London I’d never have thought to visit otherwise, and I feel like I know the city better than I ever have.”

– TELEGRAPH TRAVEL

“The latest version of the Greenground Map comprehensively collects all the capital’s finest nature spots.”

– TIME OUT LONDON

“The London Greenground Map is a delightful but vital tool for more sustainable movement, The London Underground map is iconic, and as a child I would ride the tube regularly, imagining what the world above would be like in fantasy: a castle built on top of an elephant, a giant ‘mud chute’ slide for messy kids… Helen’s map brings the reality of what is above ground, beautify testifying that we can skip across London from field, to park, to green space. Helen’s art combines perfectly the magic of the map and the geography of one of the most famous capital cities.”

Kit Marie Rackley, GEOGRAMBLINGS

“If you liked the original London Greenground Map, then you’ll love this new version. It’s much more detailed and intricate – and is also very very beautiful”.

Clare Wadd, INNER LONDON RAMBLERS

“At first glance, it looks a lot like a tube map. But this map by graphic designer Helen Ilus is instead intended as an inspiration for walkers and cyclists.. The options for exploring London in a new, greener way are infinite.”

LONDONIST

“The London Greenground Map by designer Helen Ilus takes its inspiration from the famous tube map to create a network of walking routes, with parks as “stations” in and around the capital. Greenground acts as as great planning tool or starting point, whether you are spending an hour or a day, or a week, walking the metropolis.”
